Ask the Builder Suggestions

Here are some suggestions for how to phrase your question so that we can provide a worthwhile answer.  Please provide as much detail as you can... it will really help.

Example 1:

  • Too General: Can you tell what it costs for custom home construction?

  • Better: I would like to build a two story all brick home with all hard wood flooring on the lower level, ceramic bath tile floors, solid surface kitchen tops, 3 car garage, and a 16'x16’ open deck in the Harrisburg area. What do you think the cost per square foot may run?

Example 2:

  • Too General: I am thinking of adding a master bedroom suite. What is a typical cost?

  • Better: I have a 20 yr one-story home on a level lot in south Charlotte. I am considering adding a master bedroom (approx. 15'x15’), a walk-in closet (approx. 10'x10'), and a master bath with two sinks, a whirlpool tub, a ceramic shower, and separate toilet area. Can you give me a guess on what something of this scope might cost?

Example 3

  • Too General: My family room ceiling has several dark spots in it. What could it be?

  • Better: My family room ceiling has two 4"-6” spots in the ceiling area. I have a two-story home with a bath above this area. The home is approx.15 yrs old. What is likely to be the problem and solution?

Example 4: My home’s foundation vents are torn or missing. What type of problems, if any, can this cause for my home?

Example 5: Why do I need to replace my furnace filter each month?

Note:  Please remember that this is a no-charge service, and it is intended for relatively short, simple requests or questions. If you have something more complex, please give us a call or send a separate email to:
